Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where does your fish come from?

We source the best seafood we can. We work with local fishermen and suppliers, most of whom we’ve known for years. They can be trusted to deliver on our commitment to provide fresh-caught fish and seafood from local and Australian waters. If we don’t know where it comes from, we won’t be putting it on our shelves to sell. We pride ourselves on providing only Australian-caught fish, the vast majority being wild-caught or from sustainable Australian farms and at various times of the year, some quality New Zealand fish.

  • What should I look for when buying fresh seafood?

A quick way to tell if a fish is fresh is to check its eyes. You’ll be looking for clear eyes with dark pupils. Fresh fish should smell like the sea.

  • How long does fresh seafood last?

Once it’s been cleaned and prepared, fresh seafood should last 2 to 3 days in the fridge, raw. This includes fresh fish, squid, cuttlefish, and octopus.

Most seafood can be frozen, although this can affect the flavour and texture. If your freezer gets down to minus 18C or lower, you can safely freeze most seafood for up to 3 months.

Some non-oily fish can be frozen for up to 6 months. Before freezing, you would need to remove the meat from shellfish and molluscs.
